Item of the day: The Hatbox Ottoman

“Would you be able to create a replica of that item to order?” My questioning was met by a resounding no. “We are not able to reproduce our recreations! The result is never the same and Recreate pieces are all one off individual items.” The good news is Recreate is just what it claims to be; a secondary phase facelift and rebirth for all things broken and abandoned - in short, junk. Capetonian Katie Thompson, the brains behind this refuse resurrection, crafts an eclectic assortment of reclaimed goods and with a background in interior design she also specialises in interior renovating. Her remodelled objects include furniture, lighting and interior accessories with everything ranging from teacup candlesticks to milk pail stools. It has a delightfully old-world feel, subtly contemporised by blooming linens and contoured stripes, printed leathers and delicious velvety upholstery. If you’re looking for something a little different this season, take a peek at this converted hatbox-ottoman. So functional yet fabulous, it serves both as an ottoman and doubles up as a storage unit. The polkadot print, clean lines and fresh colour just screams summer and what’s better is that none of your friends will be able to duplicate it! This ottoman retails at R2800.
