Item of the Day: Puzzle Pinup

Getting organised is suddenly tempting, thanks to the quirky Puzzle Pinup. The fiberboard and cork interlocking pieces are young designer Lucas Adams’ first product. But that’s hardly surprising, considering the 23-year-old is still a student. Adams is proudly South African, and when he’s not studying Industrial Design at Cape Town’s CPUT or thinking up new and fabulous designs, he’s running the website dbriefed.co.za, in which he promotes other local design talents. The fact that he has so much on his plate is probably exactly why his first design was a decluttering tool. ‘I’m a bit of an organisational freak at times,’ Adams told us, ‘but let’s face it, who isn’t? I’ve always been the kind of person that likes to “put things in their places” so a simple, yet good-looking pinup board struck me as something people could use.’ Adams promises that he will be releasing more products on his new label, Kraftisan. The name was born from the idea of handcrafted, quality goods, produced in an artisanal way, using the aid of machines. ‘All our products are assembled by hand, and are designed to allow for the least amount of waste while using environmentally friendly materials wherever possible. Our ultimate goal is to use only 100% recyclable materials while keeping our prices affordable for all.’ At R260 for a set of four puzzle pieces, Kraftisan is definitely sticking to their philosophy.
