Item of the day: homebakes ceramics

Ceramicist Wendy McLachlan operates her small-scale company, Homebakes, from her beloved hometown of Cape Town. Her delicious concoctions are welded from nostalgic and oft-disregarded kitchen utensils, baked goods and domestic items, which, under Wendy's deft hand, are converted into humorous commentaries on ‘creature comforts’. Her beautiful 'teatime ceramics and other delights' are both functional and eye catching thanks to Wendy's casting techniques matched with sprigging, delftware motifs and gold patina embellishments. We love her collection of teatime treasures; a centrepiece stacked high with rabbits, flowers and tiny teacups, a round cake stand with birds and pillars of glasses, textured ceramic jars and a teapot-supported cake stand. They’re objects that inspire the sweet smells of sugary sponges, but unadorned make for striking showpieces or a perfect Christmas gift for your foodiest of foodie friends.
