Item of the day: Ducoed cones

It's always exciting when local creatives venture out of their usual field of talent to create equally captivating work. Capetonian architect Frank Böhm launched his line of high-end bespoke furniture at the 2010 Design Indaba, which came off as a giant success. The Frank Böhm Studio has since been doing big things, producing various handcrafted items, from dining tables, benches, side tables, and coffee tables, to unique installations. Frank's latest offering is these ducoed cones which come in pink, blue or acid yellow. He makes a point of not masking the true nature of materials but rather capturing their already existing beauty. It is no surprise then that these contemporary designs combine solid, air dried beams, with metals and other pliable materials. The ducoed cones retail at R1916.20 each and are available from Frank's studio. Corner of Aubrey and Shannon Streets, Salt River, Cape Town. 021-447-9590
