‘Design and decadence’ is the theme of this week’s #HLDiscovery list. Gin’s popularity continues in 2018 – we take a closer look at one of the latest craft gins to hit the scene. Chocoholics have even more to indulge with Johannesburg’s latest confectionery addition and luxury brand Roche Bobois’s latest Mah Jong sofa design is nothing short of spectacular.
1. chocoloza’s new branch
Joburg’s favourite chocolaterie has expanded from its standalone space at 44 Stanley to a new spot at Dainfern Square. Expect all the delicious combinations we have come to love from them (is there anything more delicious than tonka bean cream?) but with extra space, and a new venue where you can learn to make your own chocolate creations.
2. silver creek prohibition craft gin
Capturing the spirit of the notorious prohibition era, where handcrafted liquors were fabricated in secret, Silver Creek Craft Distillery has launched a gin duo that would fit right in in the 1920s. The range consists of a Prohibition Craft Gin and Prohibition Pink Gin, handmade in small batches using select botanicals. The result is a wonderfully fresh, crisp beverage.
3. the pantry market at keyes
The central atrium of the Trumpet Building in Rosebank now hosts a Saturday market bursting at the seams with beautiful food and design. Specialising in small-batch products from the country’s most exciting new producers, expect a whole bunch of names you may not know yet, but ones you’re about to fall in love with.
4. roche bobois mah jong sofa
The Mah Jong sofa has been an iconic piece from Roche Bobois for decades. Based on the freedom of form and function, the multifunctional seating can be transformed into a sofa, armchair, lounge chair or bed. Over the years, Roche Bobois has teamed up with renowned designers who have each put their own signature stamp on the sofa. At this year’s Design Joburg, Roche Bobois showcased the Mah Jong sofa designed by Kenzo Takada, which is bold, playful and stylish. To find out more about this creation, watch the video below.
