#hldiscovery: food pairing experiences

This week on the #HLDiscovery list, we are going to do something a little different. We have rounded up some interesting food pairings you can try. There's a selection of marvellous and interesting pairings being hosted in stunning spots throughout the country. Here are a few that caught our attention.

1. popcorn and wine pairing

At Flagstone Winery you can enjoy a creative popcorn and wine pairing, thanks to their Pop Art Cart. They have taken the bland element of popcorn as a blank canvas to create a wonderful world of flavour, seasoning the popcorn with a variety of favours, including Cape Malay curry, brown onion and clove, and minted cocoa and sea salt – all paired with Flagstone wines. If you to experience just to a popcorn tasting it's R40, while the popcorn and wine tasting is R50.

2. Gin and Canapé Experience

The Gin Lab at the Conservatory at the Twelve Apostles Spa and Hotel offers a number of experiences that you can enjoy. One of the pairing options is a Gin & Canapé Tasting Experience. It is designed by chef Nicholas Goldschmidt who creates three canapés that pair with gin and tonics. The cost is R395 per person and 24-hours’ notice required to book. 3. biltong and wine pairing

Alto Wines has created a quintessential South African experience by pairing biltong and their wines at their tasting room in Stellenbosch. All five of Altos remarkable wines are showcased in the pairing that's curated by Alto winemaker Bertho van der Westhuizen and award-winning food writer and stylist Vickie de Beer. Each pairing was designed to highlight a characteristic in the wine, while simultaneously demonstrating its versatility.The Alto Wine & Biltong Tasting is available at the estate tasting lounge on the farm and costs R110.
