Cape Town-based jewellery designer Famke Koene has just released her summer 2014 collection. While she’s stuck to her iconic signature of juxtaposing geometric and organic design, the unique, simple styles found in this range are as intriguing as her previous collections. I am inspired and strive to create objects that are never-ending, last forever and celebrate never-ending relationships and bonds between people, says Famke of her new designs. ‘Bones, stripped raw by the sun… it’s like they never give up on life, they remain, even after the body and soul has left. I celebrate that strength, that tenacity and persistence, and design objects for relationships that strive to (live forever) do the same.’ ‘Honesty, history and integrity are keywords in my creative process,’ she adds. ‘My geo shapes are designed to say that it doesn’t matter how odd, irregular, unpolished or imperfect you are, you are perfect. That is where integrity comes in; from the honesty and the acceptance of the history of who we are and where we come from.’ Keep an eye out for Famke’s stand at Design Indaba from 26 February to 2 March 2014, where you’ll be able to view the 2014 collection in full.
