Crocheted Crockery

With pieces in galleries across the country, this ceramicist's intricate work has definitely caught our attention. Her skillfully crafted range of porcelain plates and bowls are inspired by lace and doilies. 'I am constantly investigating the use of different laces and doilies in my work,' says Sandy. She adds, 'I use different methods for different bowls.' With some, Sandy rolls the lace onto the porcelain clay to make an imprint, while with others she dips the actual crochet into liquid clay and then fires them at 1260 degrees so that the crochet burns in the kiln, leaving the print and texture in the porcelain.
