Fortunately for us, prolific artist and self-portraitist Tony Gum is always open to exploring different facets of her creativity, and so she agreed to collaborate with us on an interiors shoot for our September #HLArt issue. The result is a series of portraits and compositions that reflect her signature style – bold, brave and bright.
Inspired by Pablo Picasso and Africa, Tony curated vignettes that feature rich elementary colours – yellow, red, black and green – and her own body as a canvas, much like the many posts on her online feeds that won her fame in the art world. Similarly, much like her former work, these portraits also reflect her desire to change the public view of African contemporary art, fashion and culture.
We thought you might like to see what goes into such a collaboration, so we caught this little behind-the-scenes video. Enjoy and don’t forget to get your hands on our September 2016 issue to see the final result of this fun shoot.
