Backsberg Wine Estate’s fourth annual concert series is about to kick off and this year’s blues and rock line-up is sure to pull the crowds. Running for one month with performances every Sunday afternoon, the Backsberg Picnic Concerts kick off with an opening act by an emerging local band and then launch into an act by one of five top drawer South African blues and rock musicians. Complemented by a glass of Backsberg’s fine wine, the dipping summer sun and one of their delicious Karoo lamb burgers, it’s an experience worth coming back for every week. Performance line-up: 17 February – Francois van Coke with his set of laid-back unplugged versions of Fokofpolisiekar & Van Coke Kartel songs. 24 February – Blues Broers, who pride themselves on producing an exceptionally fine, versatile and diverse live blues show. 3 March – Robin Auld with a collection of roots and blues songs and his own local flavour thrown into the mix. 10 March – The Black Cat Bones and their timeless, energetic blues-rock sound. 17 March – Koos Kombuis, one of the country’s original anti-establishment musicians offering his version of folk music. Concerts run every Sunday afternoon with admission from 3pm. The first act begins at 4pm, followed by the main performance at 5pm. Pre-sale tickets are available from Ticketbreak for R85; or at the gate for R100 or R60 with a valid student card. Children under 12 years get in free when accompanied by an adult.
