Animal ceramics

South Africa has a strong heritage of great ceramics, and in light of the ceramics Shopping Inspiration spread in our July issue (on sale today), I’ve added these quirky porcelain animal bowls and mugs by Cath Price Ceramics. Based in Cape Town, Cath cites her interest in factory farming during her studies at Michaelis as the impetus for her work. Both fun and functional, these creations are ironically aimed at making your mealtime more enjoyable. In addition to her bowls and mugs, Cath has just produced an oval platter and a series of charming goose egg cups. Her moulds for bowls with animals embossed on the bottom are also a work in progress and are bound to be a favourite with kids. Available from Haas and Marigold (21 De Lorentz Street, Oranjezicht, 021-422-5451). Her single rabbit bowls and rabbit-looking-through bowls are also stocked by Deep Dark Africa’s online shop. Contact Cath on 073 372 4578 or visit her Facebook page for more details.   Naomi Larkin Editor – House and Leisure
