Every day at One&Only Cape Town, Executive Pastry Chef René Simatos satisfies even the most edacious sweet tooth. A tableful of sweet treats, cakes, pastries and savoury morsels await guests at the hotel's elegant Vista Bar and Lounge. The large wall-to-ceiling windows look out onto a waterfront cove and the Cape’s magnificent Table Mountain, making it the perfect venue for an afternoon of blissful indulgence. Afternoon Tea at the One&Only has become famed for its display of perfectly crafted sweets (almost too pretty to eat) and varied selection of teas. Early each morning, René’s team of pastry smiths and bakers begin preparations for the sugary day ahead. René trained as a patissier at the Mount Nelson, and since becoming Executive Pastry Chef at One&Only, she has subsequently placed its Afternoon Tea on the map. She cites quality ingredients as being at the core of her craft and is a stickler for ensuring the true flavours of her just-baked creations come to the fore. Compound chocolate, lemons, raspberries and cocoa nibs are among some of her favourite ingredients. The daily Afternoon Tea focuses on a traditional and seasonal sweet and savoury buffet. In the upcoming winter months, look forward to chocolate and spices such as ginger, while the summer months inspire René and her team to explore fresh fruit and summer berries. HL certainly recommends their latest endeavor – a fresh take on the traditional Gateaux. The One&Only Gateaux of the day is a different variation of the classic cream cake – a creamy and rich Lindt chocolate indulgence. Pair that with a cheeky glass of MCC bubbly and you might find it even harder to leave. Catering for up to 100 guests in Vista Bar & Lounge, the Afternoon Tea at One&Only Cape Town is priced at R165 per person and is served from 2.30pm – 5.30pm daily.
