5 Highlights in the June Issue

Toby Murphy

The HL June 2016 issue is all about taking inspiration from the vibrant South African fashion world and bringing it into y0ur home. It's dedicated to honouring creativity of all kinds and to taking a peek into the lives of influential style-shapers to explore the spaces they dwell in and the things with which they surround themselves.

Here are five highlights you can look forward to finding between the covers of our June #HLFashionComesHome issue.

fashion-forward homes

From pages 49 to 81, we get inside the eclectic Fresnaye home of lauded designers Christiaan Gabriël Du Toit and Malcolm Kluk, the Modernist Joburg sanctuary of sought-after make-up artist Lesley Whitby, the offbeat Saxonwold abode of renowned fashion maven Marianne Fassler, and the minimalist Joburg heritage home of architect Joe van Rooyen.

art from textiles

In our art review on pages 41 to 44, art critic, curator and consultant Mary Corrigall examines how a number of well-known local artists have made use of textiles and the language of fashion in their work.

the magic of the mushroom

We look at how to make the most of the mushroom - an ideal ingredient for old winter days - by offering up five hearty recipes that incorporate porcinis and chanterelles on pages 96  to 101.

flooring ideas

In our Solutions section, we look to various cosmopolitan cities around the world to offer up inspiration for flooring options, from bold rugs and industrial-chic concrete to patterned tiles, marble and wood. Get ideas for your home on pages 105 to 112.

uncovering joburg

Four movers and shakers from Johannesburg take us around the City of Gold and let us in on their favourite Jozi jaunts, including brunch spots, dinner joints, sundowner venues, hotel bars, fashion stores and art galleries. Get their guide to eGoli on pages 83 to 90.

The HL June 2016 issue is on shelves from 23 May.
