10 years of the FNB JoburgArtFair
Posted: 07 September 2017
A decade after it became the first art fair in Africa, this year's FNB JoburgArtFair is themed 'Looking Back and Looking Forward'. For 10 years the Fair has been providing a space for leading artists, galleries, collectors, writers, thinkers and art lovers to congregate, and there's certainly much to look forward to at the 2017 event. Having been the featured artist at the inaugural Fair in 2008, South African-born multimedia artist Robin Rhode is once again centre stage. Another highlight sees Dr Zoe Whitley, research curator at the Tate Modern in London, coming on board as the special projects guest curator to present 'Truth, or some other abstraction'. As the 2017 recipient of the FNB Art Prize, Nigerian artist Peju Alatise will have a strong presence at the Fair. With participating galleries from across the continent and an exciting talks programme, we can't wait to experience the 10th annual FNB JoburgArtFair first hand as it takes over the Sandton Convention Centre on 8-10 September 2017. In anticipation of this year's immense offering, FNB JoburgArtFair director Mandla Sibeko, featured artist Robin Rhode, Artlogic producer Nicole Siegenthaler and Bronwyn Lace of The Centre for the Less Good Idea come together to share their insights on art in South Africa now.
