This contemporary family home captures its owner’s love of antiques, offsetting it against a modern, architectural backdrop.
‘I grew up with an antique loving mother; who used to scout for finds in the most unusual places, digging up unwanted pieces at scrap heaps and finding furniture on the side of the road and restoring it. The bug my mom had must have passed down to me,’ reflects Gerbri Schwartz. Her home, shared with her husband Niel and three children Maia 10, Jasmin 9, and Finn 5, is a stage for the pre loved pieces she has accumulated over the years.
The main bedroom has an impressive timber panel of kiaat with a built-in bookshelf.

The kitchen pendant light is from Eurolux and the bar stools were found at a second-hand store for R30 each. Gerbri also bought the kiaat Mid-Century Modern dining chairs on auction. There are solid-wood Oggie floors throughout the home.
The Danish sideboard in the sun room, which was found at a Firlands Children’s Home sale, is one of Gerbri’s most cherished pieces. She found the white Barcelona chairs online at OLX.
