house #1 - modern poetry

Styling Leana Schoeman Photographs Elsa Young WHEN January/February 2012 ISSUE Trends WHERE Forest Town, Johannesburg WHAT A handsome angular structure in smooth concrete, slatted timber and a teasing sliver of glass, concealing a warm stylish space within. Inspired by the clean lines of modernism, this striking architectural home is full of surprises, from its sensual use of natural materials to the verdant inner garden, around which it appears to have been built. A floating staircase in gleaming wood ascends to the light-filled living and dining areas, orientated to this unexpected green expanse. It’s a fitting habitat for its occupants, Lee-Ann Bell and Marcus Pieterse, of interior design consultancy and store Mezzanine and MAKE furniture respectively, whose love of pure, streamlined design is evident throughout the classically cool, timeless milieu.
