Join Decorex Cape Town and experience the Mother City’s leading décor and design talent.
This year’s theme is Decorex: Home of Great Ideas. Promising to showcase only the best and latest fabrics, furnishings and accessories for each and every room in your home, the exhibit will include established and independent brands as well as new designer talent.
HL spoke to Cape Town designer Sarah Ord who is collaborating with textile house Home Fabrics to create a space for Decorex’s Designer Spotlight:
How would you describe your signature look?
‘Big, brave, saturated colour, an embroidering of the contemporary and the traditional, and a scattering of one of a kind pieces collected from far and wide. In short, gathered, comfortable and well loved.’
What should visitors expect from your Decorex stand?
‘Mine is very much an anything-goes approach,’ explains the designer, who describes the look of her intended Decorex stand as ‘tropical arbor – a sexy, lush and colourful nod to warmer climes – think mint julep afternoons on the verandah.’
How will you be creating this look?
‘I am hugely inspired by fabrics,’ says Sarah. ‘I often start a scheme with just one ‘wow’ fabric and go from there. For my Decorex installation, these particular lavish, richly hued imported fabrics and wall coverings will feature in the upholstering and soft furnishings of an exuberantly ‘leafy’ dining and entertaining space.’ Sarah will be using choice fabrics and wallpapers from Designers Guild’s Shanghai Garden and Christian Lacroix’s Nouveaux Mondes collections, both of which will be launched this month at Home Fabrics.
