Going Green

There’s no doubt green is in and Africa rocks.  A new skincare range making news here and abroad is Savane Organic Skincare, a certified organic luxury skincare range made in Africa from sustainable, fair trade ingredients and essences culled from all over the continent. Founded by Stephane Helary and Jennifer Peters, two expatriates with an extensive background in conservation and an abiding love for Africa, Savane is inspired by the ancient traditional wisdom of the Southern African peoples, and guided by modern green science and a deep commitment to the environment. Rich in some of the most powerful natural antioxidants and deep penetrating essential fatty acids, Savane restructures, regenerates and revitalizes the skin, protecting it against premature aging and restoring its natural balance. The Savane Organic Skincare range consists of six products:

  • Soothing Cleanser, with aloe ferox, rooibos and moringa
  • Purifying Toner, with rooibos
  • Gentle Exfoliant, with rooibos, marula and jojoba
  • Protective Moisturizer, with baobab, kigelia, maketti and yangu
  • Anti-Aging Lift Serum, with kigelia, baobab and buchu
  • Balancing Face Oil, with marula, Kalahari melon and manketti

Here’s what the US-based online fashion authority style.com has to say about Savane: "Savane isn’t just another green-leaning company out to jump on the “all-natural” bandwagon - with an extra touch of exoticism - either. The 98 % organic collection makes a point to avoid superfluous packaging (all of the products come bottled in recyclable aluminum), its relevant press information is printed on paper made from sugar pulp, and even its website uses a special light frequency that requires less energy output. "Anything we can do to reduce our footprint," Helary explains, which includes sourcing only African ingredients that have been sustainably and wildly harvested. "It’s theirs," he says of the farmers’ land that he and Peters cull from. "We don’t destroy the biodiversity or claim intellectual property rights; we just help them protect it and share it with the world." In South Africa, Savane is available at the Lunar boutiques in 22 Stanley, Milkpark, Johannesburg and 65 Loop Street in Cape Town; Objekt along 7th Avenue, Parktown North, Merchants on Long, 34 Long Street, Cape Town, and at the NAP boutiques Cape Town (Cape Quarter, Stellenbosch, Hout Bay, Kloof Street in Gardens) as well as in Johannesburg (Bamboo Centre, Melville and Kramerville in Sandton). savaneskin.co.za 011-447-6159
