The shortest film ever to be nominated for an Academy Award, American filmmaker PES’ Fresh Guacamole is sheer viewing pleasure. The production of this wonderful little film reads like a complex ingredients list. Mixing together a large dollop of pixilation (or live action stop motion graphics comprised of thousands of photographs), a dash of unspoken wordplay, a pinch of whimsical imagery, a few hefty kilos of visual puns and about four months of production time, the film serves up a refreshing depiction of a man making guacamole out of random objects in place of food. Dice are diced, pincushions are tomatoes and grenades are avocados, proving PES’ eyes are certainly bigger than his stomach. Millions of people have watched PES’ short films over the years, but this is certainly his finest. Get hungry: this is a visual feast!
