Hundreds of stylish Joburgers descended on Katy’s Palace Bar in Kramerville to celebrate the second edition of House and Leisure’s Night Market, in association with Old Mutual. HL selected some of the country’s finest designers, foodies and artisans to showcase and sell their spectacular creations. Market goers were treated to welcome drinks by Scheckter Energy and sipped on a range of world-class wines courtesy of Glen Carlou while shopping for various decor, accessories and fashion items. Musicians Jared Coetzer and Sean de Beer entertained the crowd. Food stalls offered guests the opportunity to fill their tummies with delicious wraps, fusion sushi, shawarmas and sweet treats. Did you get your pic snapped in front of Old Mutual’s photo wall? Head to our Facebook page and tag yourself! See below for information about the vendors from our second night market. GLEN CARLOU About: In 2012 Glen Carlou celebrated its 25th vintage – a comparatively young estate in the South African wine industry – yet we are proud to say, we have built a reputation as one of South Africa’s leading producers. Under the ownership and management of the world-renowned Hess Family, we continue to produce wines of exceptional quality and consistency, growing from strength to strength. Since 1985, we have only had three winemakers – whose collective passion has ensured that Glen Carlou has produced consistently exceptional wines for almost three decades. For us, creating classic, award-winning wines is a wonderful and gratifying journey, but it is not the destination. Consistency, expertise and a commitment to always deliver beyond expectation is what we strive for with every bottle of Glen Carlou wine. This is why we are known as the ‘Curators of Classic Wines’. Dynamic and driven, he later racked up a wealth of experience at the Michaelangelo Hotel in Sandton and then at a boutique hotel in Scotland. In 2004 he launched his own business specialising in handmade chocolates and wedding cakes. ‘When you are passionate about something, it isn’t work. I truly love what I do,’ says Dylan. In 2012, he joined the Branson Centre of Entrepreneurship. A Thyme to Dine has since evolved its offering to chocolate-based products for retailers and catering services for corporate and private clients. Jonsson plans to export his products and start a micro brewery that produces beer containing chocolate. ‘An integral part of my five-year plan is to open a self-sustainable boutique hotel with a school that will teach chefs how to make food from seed to plate.’ Email: email@example.com Website: athymetodine.co.za AN ARTIST IS NEVER POOR About: My love for origami craft and traditional cross-stitching inspired me to create a series of aztec inspired cross-stitch jewellery pieces. I use different geometric shapes and abstract patterns in my jewellery design, which I combine with cross-stitch craft. I am also inspired by paper art. At the moment I am busy with a series of three-dimensional abstract flowers made from recycled paper. About: Local fashion duo Paul van der Spuy and Adrian Heneke launched the first bluecollarwhitecollar store in Cape Town in 2008, followed by Johannesburg in 2010. bluecollarwhitecollar is about amazing shirts and clothing; quality garments with a great fit. There is no great vision or message, no specific target market – just clothing that makes the wearer feel good and look stylish. bluecollarwhitecollar has little to do with fashion and trends. It is rather an individual expression of what Paul and Adrian feel as they look to the past at beautifully constructed items and apply that inspiration to today’s modern looks. The store carries blue-collar (industrial worker inspired) casual shirting and white-collar (smart office worker and evening) shirts in cottons and linens. In addition, they offer a range of T-shirts and retro boardshorts, beautifully constructed ladies shirts as well as a semi-bespoke shirt service (for Joburg customers only).
