The Great Gatsby at Spier

’Tis the season for leisure, and at Spier Wine Farm in Stellenbosch, there’s no shortage of activities to enjoy this summer. The launch of the new outdoor theatre experience, The Great Gatsby, is all the more reason to visit the spectacular winery. The stage adaption of F Scott Fitzgerald’s novel brings the legendary story to life, with Twenties tailored suits, flapper dresses, prohibition-era parties, speakeasy style and, of course, Gatsby himself, perfectly played by Bjorn Steinbach, a talented actor who exudes onstage presence and charm. Ahead of the Baz Luhrmann film based on Gatsby, to be released in May 2013, this show is sure to draw in the crowds and have South Africans reliving and reveling in the roaring Twenties. Join Gatsby’s glamorous world from 20 November to 31 December 2012. Theatre goers are welcome to make an evening of it and dress up in typical Twenties fashion, but don’t forget to bring along a warm jacket and blanket. Buy your ticket for R630 through Computicket, which includes access to the show, a selection of snacks, including oysters, boerewors rolls, red velvet cupcakes, and Spier’s signature wine served from 7pm.
