They’re a beer of firsts: The first to add a second hop to their brew (one for taste, one for aroma), and the first to be awarded the Dutch Royal Seal of Approval and build a 7km pipeline from the brewery to the original water source in The Netherlands. They’re also one of the top 10 most environmentally friendly breweries in the world, recycling 99% of all waste and, of course, they’re one of the few that chose not to eliminate their iconic Swingtop when others moved to a bottle cap. Grolsch is for the individual who values true artistry and craftsmanship and for those who choose to see the world a little differently. Cheersch! Only the finest vineyards in the Western Cape are selected to produce these wines that are abundant in flavour and true to their varietal character. With their close affinity to their natural surroundings, Fleur du Cap wines lend themselves perfectly to pairings with nature’s gifts of unrefined salts, from indigenous Khoisan salt from the West Coast to exotic Black Lava salt from the volcanic peaks of Hawaii. Fleur du Cap wines are made at Die Bergkelder, the famous ‘cellar in the mountain’ on the outskirts of Stellenbosch. Website: fleurducap.co.za Facebook: facebook.com/FleurduCap Twitter: twitter.com/FleurduCapWines LOMOND Lomond wine farm is situated on the Agulhas Plain, at the southernmost tip of Africa. The farm, which derives its name from Ben Lomond Mountain that runs through the farm, is situated 8km from the shores of the Indian Ocean. As a result, cool sea breezes sweep across the vineyards allowing the grapes to ripen slowly, gaining complexity with time, and character from their very unique climate. The vines are planted over 18 different soil types, and as a result, the flavour profiles of the single vineyard wines differ markedly from one vineyard to the next. Most of the wines are given the names of indigenous flora on the farm. Website: lomond.co.za ARTVRAAT ‘Vraat’ is a South African slang term meaning ‘someone who doesn’t know when enough is enough’. He decided to combine LED lighting technology with the natural beauty of organic materials. EarthStar sculptural luminaires are made using wood collected with environmental awareness in mind. ‘We use deadfall and driftwood found during wilderness adventures or harvested invasive alien species as part of an eradication programme.’ The LEDs are extremely energy efficient and have a long life span (50 000 hours). As the lights can be powered via electricity or solar-recharged 12 volt batteries they can be used to add a magical ambiance to both interior or exterior spaces.
