If it’s food and drink you’re after this summer, Steenberg are ready to tantalise your taste buds with a host of culinary and wine experiences. Wine lovers can head straight to Steenberg’s popular tasting room, open daily between 10am and 6pm, to indulge in complimentary tastings of up to six wines. The estate’s flagship wines can be tasted for a nominal fee and tutored tastings are available from R100 per person. Complementing their excellent food-wines, Steenberg also offers a range of gastronomic delights. Throughout summer the winery’s restaurant, Bistro 1682, will be offering a new breakfast, lunch and tapas menu. For dining al fresco the winery has an Extemporaneous Platter which includes two freshly baked paninis, local artisan cheese and two pieces of saucisson sec – French style dried salami – all for R85. Leisurely summer picnics can also be enjoyed on the winery’s lawn. Served between 10am and 5pm, the picnic baskets are filled with an assortment of mouth-watering goodies like Italian paninis with oven roasted butternut and red onion spread, Cape cheeses from Dalewood Fromage and chocolate brownies for dessert. Each picnic spread will be accompanied by your choice of bottle from a selection of Steenberg wines. If you’re celebrating a special event, Steenberg ups their picnic offering to include a salmon platter served with blinis, crème fraiche, caper berries, lemon and Travia, and a bottle of Steenberg’s 1682 Chardonnay MCC. It’s great for couples celebrating engagements and anniversaries. After wining and dining outdoors, an afternoon at Steenberg can be completed with a spot of boules, played in true French style. The standard picnic-for-two is R350 and the special event picnic is R500. Both require pre-booking. A special picnic for children is available on request at R60 per basket and includes a toy.
