Sip these Summer Whites

Fleur du Cap, known for quality wines that express their origins and varietal character, has given its entire Bergkelder Selection a complete make-over with elegant new labels that portray a deep affinity with nature. Ready for summer in their elegant attire, the 2015 white wines are the first to don their fresh new look, with the reds following suit from the 2013 vintage onwards.

The muted colour palette of the new, elegantly fashioned labels, capture the essence of Fleur du Cap's nature-inspired winemaking philosophy and the Bergkelder Selection's contemporary simplicity. Even the capsules around the neck of the bottles reflect the wines’ origins in understated elegance with the white wines featuring the aloe and the reds giving prominence to the protea, both botanical icons of the Cape Floral Kingdom.

Fleur du Cap Bergkelder Selection Sauvignon Blanc 2015 is a crisp summer wine that radiates fresh intensity with exceptional layers of fruit. The characteristics derived from the vineyards in the diverse regions specially selected for this blend, create a multi-layered wine teeming with tropical fruit and subtle herbaceous notes.

'We are in the enviable position to source the best grapes from a diverse range of vineyard sites and micro climates throughout the Western Cape. The fact that each region imparts special qualities to our wines is particularly evident in this Sauvignon Blanc,' says Kristin Basson, the new winemaker of Fleur du Cap white wines.

Fleur du Cap Bergkelder Selection Chardonnay 2015 is a lightly wooded, fruit driven wine with fresh citrus notes and underlying tropical flavours with the fruit and acidity in perfect balance.

'Four months of wood contact with French and American oak lends a beautiful mouth-feel, fullness and long lingering finish, but without ever dominating the wine,' adds Basson.

She recommends serving the Sauvignon Blanc with summer salads, seafood or even Thai and fresh tomato dishes such as a caprese salad. The Chardonnay on the other hand goes best with rich creamy dishes, mussels, curries and cheeses.

Fleur du Cap Bergkelder Selection Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay are available at leading wine outlets country-wide. The cellar door price at Die Bergkelder in Stellenbosch is R58 per bottle. The wines are also available for purchase online from vinoteque.co.za.
