We’ve been through the Kombucha phase, moved on to craft beer, swung to buchu water and now we’re turning our eyes (and parched lips) to the refreshing switchel.
Known as the haymaker’s punch, this is a cocktail that farm workers used to enjoy after a long day working the land. It’s not only refreshing, but is full of electrolytes and potassium, making it a great ‘recovery drink’ too.
Ingredients include ginger, water, apple cider vinegar and a touch of sugar, molasses or honey, and of course, in these more modern times a little shot of craft gin wouldn’t hurt either.
This drink goes a long way back in history. Get the full story and how to make your own switchel in this handy video by Jas Townsend and Son Inc.
