Season of Sauvignon festival

White wine lovers will be treated to Durbanville’s annual Season of Sauvignon festival, on the first weekend of October 2012 (the 6th and 7th), with Simonsberg as the festival’s official cheese partner. ‘The Season of Sauvignon wine festival, which is now in its 8th year, is deeply rooted in the Durbanville Wine Valley’s terroir and indications are that 2012 will be a great vintage in our valley,’ says Michelle van Staden, festival organiser and marketing manager for the Durbanville Wine valley. 12 of the wine farms in the Durbanville area will be opening their cellar doors and vineyards to white wine enthusiasts, offering entertainment like live jazz, picnics, food stalls and cocktail bars, all weekend long. Some restaurants will be showing off their culinary skills, experimenting with food and drinks that can be paired with white wine. Experience hands-on family fun and food interaction activities ranging from mozzarella making, and sow and grow to a chocolate world. Attend tutored tasting by the Cape Wine Academy or take a tour through the vineyard with Altydgedacht or by air on a Ferry helicopter. Rugby fans don’t need to worry about missing the South Africa vs. New Zealand game, as it will be aired in the barrel cellar with snacks. Speaking of barrels, you can fill your own bottles straight from them, while you’re there. This is the perfect occasion to get a group together and enjoy great food, wine and live music. Thanks to fresh country air, beautiful vineyards, and remarkable views of the ocean and Table Mountain, you couldn’t ask for a better setting.
