House and Leisure Food Editor, Raphaella Frame-Tolmie, took to Scandinavian cuisine for inspiration for her haute food spread in the January/February 2013 Trends issue. Below are a few images to show you some of the behind the scenes happenings. Contrary to what readers might think, food shoots involve lots of preparation both before the time and on the day. When we arrived at the studios in Cape Town, super chef and Raphaella's assistant, Leila Padayachi, was already whipping up all sorts of edible madness. There were items of cutlery and stacks of crockery on one table, surrounded by decor bits and pieces. This was a clear indication of how much thought and planning goes into food styling. Russell Smith, someone with a wealth of travel experience and years of hard work behind him, was the photographer on the job. The most exciting process during the day was watching independent ingredients come together to create beautiful dishes that were then ready to be photographed. An added bonus - getting to taste all the delicious foods that formed part of the shoot!
We highly recommend that you flick through pages 126 - 131 of your January/February 2013 issue of House and Leisure to see the delectable outcome of the Scandinavian food shoot...
