Summertime is the ideal season to hone your cocktail-making skills, especially when the recipe includes a good whisky. Bain’s Cape Mountain Whisky is South Africa’s first single grain whisky made entirely from 100% locally grown maize. The whisky undergoes double maturation in American oak casks and exudes subtle flavourings of vanilla, spice and pepper. If you like the sound of that, then roll up those sleeves and get ready to prepare a refreshing cocktail:
37.5ml Bain’s Cape Mountain Whisky
20ml triple sec
juice of 1.5 limes
barspoon vanilla sugar
Chill a glass with ice. Fill a shaker with cubed ice and add 1.5 shots of Bain’s Cape Mountain Whisky, the juice of 1.5 freshly squeezed limes and a barspoon of vanilla sugar. Shake vigorously, discard the ice from the glass and fine strain the ingredients into the glass using a tea strainer. Top up with soda water and garnish with fresh mint.
