4 Creamy Coffee Cocktails


In the spirit of all things java with our July 2015 Issue's Coffee Supplement - on sale now! - we've put together a list of some dangerously delicious coffee cocktail recipes. It's no secret that we've got a bit of a thing for creamy cocktails here at HL HQ; we've shared our love of Nespresso Cocktails, Winter Cocktails and Amarula Cocktails (and even an Amarula Cheesecake recipe!). Ultra indulgent and wonderously wintery, these coffee cocktails are just what the barista ordered: 1. Coffee Tequila Ice Cream This showstopper from Sweet by Sam Linsell (R250, Struik Lifestyle) will have everyone begging you for the recipe. The coffee tequila is particularly indulgent and amplifies the coffee flavour in the ice cream. (as seen in our July 2015 Issue Coffee Supplement) HR-tequila-coffee-recipe-shot Ingredients 2 free-range eggs 100g granulated white sugar 60ml espresso powder 250ml milk 5ml vanilla extract 500ml fresh heavy or whipping cream 45ml coffee tequila liqueur (such as Patrón XO Cafe) ±100g malted puffs, roughly smashed in a bag, plus extra for serving Method Using an electric mixer, beat the eggs and sugar until it is pale and fluffy (about three minutes). It should double in volume. Dissolve the espresso powder in the milk, and add this along with the vanilla extract and cream to the egg and sugar mixture. Beat it briefly. Add the liqueur and churn the mixture in an ice-cream maker according to the manufacturer’s instruction until it’s as firm as it can become. Add the smashed malted puffs and churn briefly until mixed. Transfer the mixture to a freezer-proof container or a lined metal loaf tin, and freeze. Serve with additional smashed malted puffs as decoration. Makes ±7ooml   2. Amarula Espresso Martini This decadent concoction comprises Amarula Cream shaken with freshly brewed hot espresso and Nachtmusik chocolate liqueur. Served straight up in a chilled martini glass and completed with a dollop of whipped cream, coffee beans and chocolate dusting. Heavenly! Espresso-Martini-without-bottle-1-HR Ingredients 2 shots (50 ml) Amarula Cream 1 ½ shots hot espresso or strong brewed filter coffee ½ shot (12.5 ml) Nachtmusik chocolate liqueur Shaved or grated white, milk and/or dark chocolate to garnish Method Pour the Amarula Cream, hot espresso or coffee, and Nachtmusik chocolate liqueur into a cocktail shaker or container with a lid to seal. Shake well and strain into the chilled martini glass. Do not add ice. Garnish with shaved or grated white, milk and/or dark chocolate. Serve in a chilled Martini glass.   4.
