Merchants Cafe

Dealing in design from our very own continent in a space renowned for its striking Art Nouveau look, salon store Merchants on Long in Cape Town is known for its beautiful collection of fashion, homeware and art. With all that on offer in a single space, the only thing you’d be needing after a visit is a place to rest your legs, put down all the shopping bags you’ve accumulated, have a drink and indulge in some of the finest seasonal fare Cape Town has to offer. And now you’ll have just the place. Introducing Merchants Café: Merchants on Long’s sister eatery located just across the road, at 34 Long Street. With its crafty collection of Cape creatives such as acclaimed designer Liam Mooney, popular Cape Town restaurant The Woodlands Eatery’s Larry Steenkamp, Field Office’s Will Hobson and Merchants owner Hanneli Rupert, and with a beautiful set of ceramic crockery by Michael Chandler, Merchants Café is an experience in carefully curated cuisine. Merchants will also be introducing a unique pop-up concept, offering up-and-coming foodies the chance to host a pop-up restaurant for one week every month. The first of these is Spier’s farm-to-eating experience, Eight, from 1–3 November and 5–7 November (booking essential)… As if you needed any more reasons to stop by. Be sure to check out House and Leisure’s review on the eatery in the Jan/Feb 2013 issue (on sale 17 December), and let us know what you thought of Merchants Café in the comments section below. 33 Long Street, Cape Town,, 021-422-2828 or 076-362-1505, Text: Jessica Ross Images 2 - 8:
