Le Venue

There are few things more festive and uplifting than a glass of delicious, ice-cold bubbly, and picturesque new restaurant, Le Venue, at the House of JC Le Roux, is the perfect place to kick back and sample this estate’s excellent (and wide) range of sparkling wines. Settle down on one of the comfy couches on the inviting deck-with-a-view in the heart of Stellenbosch’s Devon Valley and start with the award-winning JC Le Roux Methode Cap Classique before sauntering to one of the sunny, outdoor tables (or, opt for indoors if you want to admire the stunning decor) for a tasty brunch or lunch. Early birds can enjoy a ‘vineyard breakfast’ of truffle-centred scrambled egg, candied bacon, mini rosti, pesto mushrooms and chipolatas (we highly recommend a glass of bubbly for breakfast), or indulge in something completely different – French toast layered with grilled bananas and bacon topped with Canadian maple syrup and crispy, prosciutto ice cream (wow, right?). If leisurely lunches are more up your alley, what better complement to your champers than a tray of fresh oysters, followed by a spicy Portuguese chicken fillet, 17-spice café de Paris sirloin served with wedges and yummy roast veg, or a tasty Thai beef salad (all of which go down very nicely with the Pinot Noir Rosé – just ask for some suggestions; the staff are happy to offer advice on pairings). Lastly, even if (like me) ice cream is not your thing, the homemade nougat ice cream is a triumph and absolute must-try, and the Eton mess, packed with fresh berries, is sublime – even better enjoyed with (you guessed it) a cold glass of bubbly. And best of all, despite its grand exterior and magnificent surrounds, Le Venue’s menu is really reasonably priced, while the gourmet braai area is perfect for private functions. Le Venue is open for breakfast from 9am to 11am, and lunch is served from 12pm to 3pm. For more info visit jceroux.co.za, facebook.com/HouseofJCLeroux or follow @LeGoodLife on Twitter.
