Photographs Greg Beadle The Caesarstone Kitchen Designers award event, in association with House and Leisure, took place on a warm summer evening in Cape Town, overlooking the city. The fourth iteration of the Caesarstone Kitchen Designers awards, held at Helon Melon in Cape Town’s Woodstock, was an exclusive soiree in which five kitchen designs and their creators were honoured. HL editor Naomi Larkin, TV personality and interior designer Aidan Bennetts and Design Time’s Katherine Mann selected finalists in each of the following categories: Classic Comfort, Classic Luxury, Contemporary Comfort and Contemporary Luxury. The public was then tasked with voting for their favourite through houseandleisure.co.za to stand a chance of winning a KitchenAid Artisan Stand Mixer worth R6 500. Guests were treated to a Bombay Sapphire cocktail on arrival; wines from Wildekrans Boutique Wine Estate in Bot Rivier throughout the evening; and a harvest table of delicious rustic fare by Escoffier Catering. Trevor King, marketing director for international slab sales, announced the winners of each category, handing over the awards to Charlotte van der Haer from Kitchen Classics, who won in both the Contemporary Comfort and Contemporary Luxury categories; Keith Allen from Stretford Holdings for Classic Luxury and Santa Eksteen from Sterlings for Classic Comfort. The Judge’s Choice accolade was awarded to Marita Smuts and Heidi Arenstein from Future Classics for their Contemporary Luxury kitchen. After the announcement the crowd was entertained by local musos ShenFM at the venue, which was subtly decorated with ceramics by Mervyn Gers and artfully bunched flowers by Chris Koch of St. Christopher’s Studio. Guests went home with gift-laden goodie bags including House and Leisure issues, Merci chocolates, KitchenAid aprons, Caesarstone coasters, Natural Herbs and Spices spice grinders, a bottle of Bombay Sapphire, a NOMU baking kit and Deluxe coffee.
