With wine, food, live entertainment and a fresh goods market stocking Wellington’s larder of specialities and surprises, The Fork & Cork Wine Festival promises to be a day of fun for family and friends – winelands style. This ‘pop-up’ festival (the first of its kind) will be held on Saturday, 14 September 2013 between 10am and 5pm at Kleinevalleij, Wellington’s premium function venue. Lie on the terraced lawns sipping award-winning wines, or sample the signature delicacies of six local restaurants.
Celebrity chef, Sonia Cabano, best known for her role as presenter of the popular food programme Pampoen tot Perlemoen will be taking on local chef, Johan van Schalkwyk, founder of Twist Some More, situated in a barn on a local Wellington farm, in a cook-off of gastronomic proportions. Also on offer is a wine and food pairing, showcasing the Top Ten Wines and Best Spirit winners from the Quest for the Best competition. This competition represents the best the district has to offer, judged by five of South Africa’s foremost sommeliers. Both these events are hosted by Festa at Kleinevalleij and carry an additional entry fee of R30 per event, per person respectively. Seats are limited and tickets will be sold on a first-come-first-serve basis. Entry to the general festival area is R120 per person and includes a tasting glass and a booklet of tasting coupons. Thereafter wine is available by-the-bottle directly from producers. Tickets can be purchased from Computicket. Space is limited and booking is essential.
