Feeding The Self is an innovative food security, education, and community development project. Their focus is on creating workshops and courses that use integrated solutions to common problems that are found in underprivileged communities. These solutions are simple in principle, but in this case simple is best, and quick results ensue through the growing of gardens and crops. Encouragement paired with the correct tools empowers communities and allows them to take charge of their problems instead of being disabled by them. Ideally all that is needed is labour, seeds and land and the idea is available to be duplicated and shared. It also encompasses a well-rounded concept that allows for learning to take place within schools, while providing food. Easy and practical methods are prepared for both students and teachers to ensure follow-through and progress. The wonderful thing is the knowledge and seeds often spread into the community and don’t just stay within the school. Time invested wisely is often the only thing needed in order to minimise small problems that improve quality of life, and the Feeding The Self team have harnessed this in a productive and brilliant way. You can donate to this interesting and worthy cause via the Feeding The Self website or see more of the community projects that they have undertaken via their Facebook page.
