Editor's Letter

Welcome to our inaugural House and Leisure website newsletter. The first of what will be a weekly newsletter, it’s written with much excitement. From the outset, the website has been a huge source of pride, not just for me as Editor, but also for the whole House and Leisure team. On the first day alone – without having announced the website’s launch to the ‘outside’ world, except via Facebook and Twitter – there were 720 unique visitors, with 8 592 pages viewed. They spent an average of 12 minutes and 23 seconds on the site when the industry norm is nine minutes and 43 seconds. Clearly more of you want even more from your favourite magazine. The August issue of House and Leisure, on sale now, is our annual Luxury special. The cover jumps off the stand with its beautiful cornflower-blue foiled masthead atop a spectacular Westcliff house, which really is an architectural masterpiece. Inside it’s packed full of ideas, interpreting the luxury theme and demonstrating that it’s not always about how much money you have. There’s a six page special on lighting which provides solutions for what can often be the most confusing aspect of decorating a home, and an inspiring A-Z of bedrooms supplement. We’ve compiled a list of 46 people you should know. These are the style shapers and rising stars who are influencing the SA art, design, décor, fashion, wine, food and digital scene. But if there’s one reason alone to buy this month’s issue of HL it’s our fantasy food feature compiled by Food Editor Raphaella Frame and Décor Editor Jeanne Botes. Headlined A Fictional Feast, it’s a knockout.
