Love Coffee

Love Coffee is something new for Durban – a coffee bar catering for busy people who want to pop in for good coffee and something great to eat. Co-owner Justin Lagesse explains that Love Coffee is an off-shoot of Glenwood’s successful Corner Café. ‘Love Coffee is a slightly different concept in that we are not a restaurant,’ he says. ‘The food is put together at Corner Café and we add the final touches here. The idea is for Love Coffee to be a pick-and-go kind of place.’ Justin and his co-owner, Judd Campbell, are known for their eco-conscious business philosophy and Love Coffee conforms to the sustainable ethos by ensuring that everything served is from sustainable sources. ‘At Love Coffee, we are entirely vegetarian,’ says Justin. ‘You can’t claim to be green and still be serving meat.’ The other notable thing about Love Coffee is the decor. A double-volume space, the counter is made from wood which is off-set by the bright red walls and dark grey accents. There aren’t many tables and chairs and seating is provided on barstools at the counter. ‘It has proved to be more sociable and interactive. People sit next to strangers and get chatting as they ask each other to pass the sugar,’ says Justin. ‘This gives the place a great vibe and people seem to want to stay and be a part of it.’ Love Coffee is open for breakfast and lunch and good coffee all day at 484 Windermere Road, Morningside, Durban.
