Celeb Chefs In Action

You’ve bought their recipe books, you follow their blogs and you’ve been able to practically smell their mouth-watering creations through your TV screen. One of the biggest treats on offer at this year’s Good Food & Wine Show is the opportunity to catch celebrity chefs in action, cooking up a storm at the 200-seat Chef’s Open Theatre, for no extra charge (it works on a first-come-first-served basis).

So who exactly are these culinary superstars that will be sharing their secrets with South Africa’s food fanatics this month?

Adriano-3 Adriano Zumbo

Adriano Zumbo, known to some as the ‘Sweet Assassin’, ‘Patissier of Pain’ and ‘The Dark Lord of the Pastry Kitchen’, is Australia’s most celebrated patissier (that’s ‘pastry chef’ for the non-foodies). You probably know him from MasterChef Australia, where he rose to fame with his complicated desserts. These days he’s working on his own TV show, Zumbo’s Just Desserts.

George-Calombaris George Calombaris

Fellow Aussie George Calombaris is a force to be reckoned with – both in and out of the kitchen. The award-winning chef is a judge on MasterChef Australia and owns seven restaurants in Melbourne. He often draws on his Greek and Cypriot heritage for inspiration, so expect international flair.

Siba-3 Siba Mtongana

Adding some local flavour will be Siba's Table star and Chopped South Africa judge Siba Mtongana; chef, radio and TV presenter, caterer and culinary tour guide Jenny Morris (‘The Giggling Gourmet’); and blogger-turned-TV personality Sarah Graham. Mi Casa band member and sometimes-chef J’Something (see main image) adds a hearty dash of musical and culinary talent to the line-up.

Aside from watching these chefs do their thing in the Chef's Open Theatre, show attendees also have the option of cooking alongside these gastronomic greats or skilling up in one of the two-hour Chefs' Table masterclasses. Take on these challenges and who knows, it could be your name up in lights at the next Good Food & Wine Show.
