Bubbly on the Rocks
There are so many reasons to get excited about summer: extra hours of warmth and light, balmy evenings on beaches, the smell of sunscreen on your skin, the fresh flavor of watermelon. And now the celebrated French Maison Moët & Chandon has given us yet another one with the re-launch of Moët Ice Impérial. The ultimate symbol of summer indulgence, this luxurious bubbly was available exclusively on Cape Town’s Atlantic Seaboard for a limited period last season, but now it’s splashing onto shores in other coastal cities around the country too for the 2015/2016 warm period. Unlike any other champagne out there, this high-end wine is specifically created to be enjoyed on ice at daytime gatherings, which makes it the perfect partner on a sweltering day when a celebratory soiree is in order. As Arnaud de Saignes, the International Director of Marketing and Communications for Moët & Chandon says, ‘[its] like a beach escape in a glass’. The addition of ice to this trendy effervescent not only adds a crisp coolness to the drink but also beautifully moderates the fruity intensity and caramel sweetness of the demi-sec. And the whole package, including the elegant white lacquered bottle embellished with hints of silver and gold, emanates chilled freshness and opulence. This sparkling specialty is meant to be enjoyed in a very specific way (see the steps below), and so a limited edition floating bar has also been released so that hedonists can sip on the champagne while bathing in the pool. This buoy serves as a floating tray and comes with a white cloth beach bag, six large glasses and a magnum bottle of Moët Ice Impérial. Three steps towards the perfect glass of Moët Ice:
- Fill a large Cabernet-style glass with three big ice cubes.
- Add a few mint leaves, a slice of cucumber or lime, white grapefruit zest, a slice of ginger or a few strawberries and raspberries, depending on your own preference.
- Finish with a generous pouring of Moët Ice Impérial.
