It’s been a long week. We’ve seen Israel and Palestine agree on a long-term ceasefire (hoorah!). The weather’s gone from sunny glimpses of spring to gloomy, misty mornings. The actors of Generations are still jobless and, as the celebrity ALS challenges begin to dwindle, Charlie Sheen managed to have a teaching moment, while Olivia Wilde may have missed the point. Instead of dousing yourself in ice cold water (or money, or milk), the best way to deal with this week is to grab a blanket, indulge in a hearty meal and crack open a bottle of the good stuff. Boschendal has been producing wine for over 300 years, so when we say the good stuff, we mean the stuff that’s been made by people who’ve had three centuries to perfect their craft. The 2012 Boschendal Reserve Collection Syrah (R150) is a big and bold ruby red with its succulent berry character and sprinkle of oaky spice, but it’s simply so smooth it’ll have you wanting to purr ‘Syrah’ with a faux-French accent. Enjoy it with pork burgers to really bring out its spicy profile.
