House and Leisure is popping up at the Joburg-based decor and design show this May

House and Leisure will be bringing Vol. 1 to Vol. 4 to life through an installation at Design Joburg – the event’s fourth showcase held at the Sandton Convention Centre this May. Highlighting South African interior, fashion, architecture and sustainable design, while spotlighting the country’s newest talent, the event will also explore what the future holds for design in Southern Africa and further afield.
The creative panel driving this year’s collaborations and highlights include some of Johannesburg’s finest creative minds – including award-winning contemporary multimedia visual artist Trevor Stuurman, ideas synthesiser Sir Abner Makgamatha, Cocoon Lifestyle founder Bilala Mabuza and artist and creative director Manthe Ribane Liebmann, NATURA .co-lab.

From local industrial and furniture designers to fabric and furnishings experts, leading audiovisual specialists, ceramicists and interior design studios, architecture leaders and sustainability innovators – Design Joburg will present the very best that Southern Africa has to offer. The three-day event will run alongside fringe event, Design Joburg Collective – first hosted in Kramerville and 44 Stanley in 2021. A collection of decor-focused events, Design Joburg Collective will include industry gatherings, brand launches, studio showcases, trend talks, workshops and curated pop-ups.
Some event highlights include, the Design Theatre – a space to pause and catch up on fascinating and eye-opening design-focused talks, new work by leading female creatives Mpho Vackier from TheUrbanative, Imiso Ceramics’ Zizipho Poswa and Candice Lawrence from Modern Gesture, the Architects’ Gallery – a showcase of some of the country’s finest architectural projects and the Retail Corridor – a dedicated shopping space for visitors to purchase a collection of local design.
