Surrealism in Table Form
Cyprus-based designer Stelios Mousarris's new Wave City coffee table looks like something that might stem from a really bizarre dream. And that's because it does: not his personal dream, but a dream from Christopher Nolan's mind-bending sci-fi film Inception. More specifically, the bewitching piece of furniture was inspired by the dream scene in the movie that sees an urban landscape bend up and fold in on itself (if you're struggling to remember this part, or are yet to see the movie, watch from 0:40 to 1:40 in the clip below). The creation, which is essentially a folded-over skyline of skyscrapers, is crafted from wood, steel and 3D printed technology, and it's so intricate you could probably stare at it for hours and still not pick up every detail. So it would certainly be a good centerpiece to have in your lounge if you want to distract your guests and avoid small talk. The designer himself has a degree in model making and worked for several prestigious architecture and furniture design companies before starting his own eponymous studio, Mousarris. The business has already been responsible for creating a few other dream-like furniture items, including a chair that looks like a magic carpet floating in the air. The Wave City coffee table will set you back a hefty €4000, but this is blockbuster furniture we’re talking about. Order it and view Mousarris’s other products at mousarris.com.
