Pieter Hugo ‘Kin’ Exhibition

Known for his iconic and emotive photographs, Pieter Hugo’s latest body of work focuses on his intense struggle to find himself (and his family) in a country still coming to terms with its own identity. Hugo describes ‘Kin’ as, ‘an engagement with the failure of the South African colonial experiment and my sense of being “colonial driftwood”’. Featuring both striking and harrowing images taken around the country, including those of individuals, families, couples, homes and interiors, Pieter Hugo has managed to capture both personal and traditional moments in the lives of everyday citizens. The ‘Kin’ exhibition opens at 6pm at the Stevenson Johannesburg on 3 October and runs until 8 November 2013, and at the Stevenson Cape Town at 6pm on 17 October, running until 23 November 2013. Both galleries are open from 9am until 5pm from Monday to Friday and on Saturdays from 10am until 1pm. For more information, visit Text Lindi Brownell Meiring Photographs ©Pieter Hugo.
