Michael Pettit paints the invisible – ethereal, meditative artworks that balance yin and yang. Oil paintings that are ‘dark, lyrical, witty and surreal’. A selection of his works can be viewed at EBONY’s Cape Town Gallery in Loop Street. A rich range of style and content has long been a hallmark of Michael’s distinctive paintings. The artist uses masks as metaphor, theatre as ritual, archetypes and opposites. The rich diversity is integrated by recurring – but ever-changing – images, symbols, and deep abiding themes. Michael Pettit has held solo exhibitions at the Goodman Gallery, Everard-Read Gallery, Standard Bank Gallery, Irma Stern Museum and other notable venues. An intensely focused artist, he has maintained a distinctive, authentic and individual voice. The exhibition runs from Thursday 5th September, 5pm – 9pm until 2 October 2013.
