Lucinda Mudge Ceramics Exhibition

A collection of local ceramic artist Lucinda Mudge’s vases will be on exhibition at the Knysna Fine Art Gallery this month. Having studied fine arts at the University of Cape Town, Lucinda subsequently moved to England to pursue a career in arts. It was the birth of her first child that prompted her to move back to South Africa, where she continues to work as a ceramicist. Her time spent in England certainly influenced her work, with references to the Staffordshire slipware potters of the 17th century clearly visible within her pieces. Featuring designs marked into clay and colourful paint with honey glaze finishes, Lucinda’s work always includes the title in the decorative relief to simplify the viewing process. 'The White Tiger and Other Stories' exhibition will showcase a collection of Lucinda’s decorated ceramic vases, created using the traditional slipcover method. Aside from being bright and beautiful, her work also embodies her great sense of humour with phrases such as, ‘Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face’ inscribed into one of the vases. The exhibition runs from 1 November to 30 November 2013 at the Knysna Fine Art Gallery. Lucinda will also post exclusive images from the exhibition on her blog.
