These linen towels, imported by Vanilla House from the UK, are an innovative alternative to an ordinary bath towel. ‘Our linen towels are imported from LinenMe, a linen specialised brand from the UK owned by interior designer Inga Lukauskiene. Inga is originally from Lithuania, where her family has worked in the flax industry for over 30 years and currently owns a linen manufacturing unit,’ explains owner of Vanilla House, Gabriela Linhares. ‘Their manufacturing unit in Lithuania has been producing luxury linens for a range of world-known brands. The linen production facility uses each and every inch of the fabric, with minimal quantities going to waste.’ Towels made from linen may sound odd, but linen is, in fact, an ideal material for a towel as it is very absorbent, quick drying and light-weight – perfect for travelling as well as at home. ‘One of the most amazing qualities of pure linen fabric is that it gets softer and smoother after each wash – even more pleasant to your skin,’ says Gabriela. ‘Linen towels can be used for many purposes – as a blanket for your child, as a sheet to sit on in the park, to wear as a beach skirt, or wrap yourself in on a chilly evening.’ Vanilla House linen bath towels sell for R490 while the hand towels are R135. Vanilla House is at 54 Florida Road, Morningside, Durban, 031-303-5176.
