As the holiday season picks up, so does the opportunity to browse art galleries, as opposed to indulging in the regular holiday activities. This November, two of Knysna’s art galleries will be hosting varied art exhibitions. Galleries Knysna Fine Art and A Different Drummer will each showcase a range of artworks, sculpture work, and artefacts from various artists. A Different Drummer will exhibit various works such as Trevor Opperman lamps, Nico Masemolo ceramics and various African artefacts, while Knysna Fine Art will showcase oil paintings by DP Ferreira entitled, ‘Everyday Findings’ as well as works produced by Jill Trappler entitled, ‘Familiar Places’. ‘Familiar Places’ is an exhibition of eight large paintings by Jill Trappler, which are almost dreamlike in their layers and shadows. In ‘Everyday Findings’, DP Ferreira created paintings that are a poetic interpretation of the senses. The exhibition at Knynsa Fine Art opens this Friday, 30 November, and will run until February 2013. A Different Drummer presents an eclectic mix of homegrown African talent and creativity, with an international appeal. The exhibition at A Different Drummer is currently on show and will continue for a few more months. Both Knysna Fine Art and A Different Drummer galleries are situated in the same building, Thesen House, at no.6 Long Street, in Knysna, which means if you visit the one, there’s no excuse not to pop into the other.
