David Krut Publishing is marking the centenary of the birth of Francois Krige with an exhibition of his works on paper. Krige, born in 1913, is renowned for his Post-Impressionist paintings influenced by his years spent travelling and studying in Europe, as well as his involvement in the New Group. This exhibition will focus on the lesser-known body of work that Krige left behind on paper including his charcoal, pencil and pen drawings, watercolours, oil and gouache paintings, as well as many etchings. Justin Fox, the curator of the exhibition, is related to the artist, which gives him a unique insight into the artist’s pieces. As an expert on Francois’ work, Justin has provided a narrative for each of the pieces on display. The works aim to provide glimpses into the world of the artist, the places he visited and the stories that made up his life. The exhibition takes place until 11 January 2013 at David Krut Fine Arts and Publishing at 31 Newlands Avenue, Newlands, Cape Town. David Krut Publishing also recently opened a new bookstore after joining forces with Hadeda in Johannesburg at 151 Jan Smuts Avenue in Parktown.
