Being the fans of luxurious fabric that we are, we’ve got our eyes on some of the latest products to come out of Hertex, one of the leading makers of textiles, rugs and wall coverings in South Africa.
Most notable is the brand’s new Atlantis collection, a patchwork of geometrics, water colour-like aesthetics, tribal motifs and life-like illustrations in sumptuous blues, greens, red and greys.
Two of the designs from the range bear illustrations that were hand-drawn by Coba Herrmann, the Director of Hertex and the wife of the company’s German-born founder, Peter Herrmann. This gives these particular prints a very special artisan touch, which is partly why we’re a little enamoured with them.
Then there’s also the fact that the drawings on these two fabrics are just so enchanting and bring a charming outdoor world in. The Bush Beauties design features little owls, rabbits, butterflies and hoopoes while the Marine Marvels textile takes viewers onto shores and into the ocean with seahorses, penguins, turtles, shells and rays.
Considering that the painterly look is one that Robin Sprong, the local king of wallpaper design, has identified as being a trend for 2016, we’re also quite taken by Hertex’s Socrates fabrics. These boast a soft, flowy water colour aesthetic and come in Clay red, Forest green, Oceanic blue and Phantom grey.
The above options are ideal for curtaining and upholstery. If you want some readymade fabric goodness for you bedroom or lounge, we recommend Hertex’s indulgent Melange throws, which bring texture, warmth and softness to a room. They’re like sophisticated hugs in material form.
