Looking to update your kitchen? HL chatted to John Almon, of The Tile House about how combinations are a refreshing way to decorate spaces. Here are some of his ideas:
Use different tiles on floors and walls:
Metro tiles are more popular than ever. These tiles are seen with a flat, undulating surface and sides, bevelled edges. Have fun playing with Metro tile combinations as they come in soft matte and shiny colours with different finishes and various sizes.
Combine different tiles on your walls:
Combine different tiles on your walls. A mixed approach to wall tiles with different patterns and tonal colours creates detail that’s exciting and varied
Different tile textures combined on the same wall:
Use one type of tile in but in varying surfaces, combined across one wall. This showcases subtle tonal differences and surface interest.
Mixed surfaces of the same tile in long rectangles:
Large format tiles are proving to be popular this year. The new sizes are 1000mm x 3000mm, 1200mm x 1200mm, 1200mm x 2400mm and 1600mm x 3200mm. With advancements in tile technology, it’s very grand and impressive to see these large format tiles and they do give a sense of opulence and modern sophistication.
Combine your patterned tiles with subtle colours:
A contemporary retro influence is definitely showing up with patterned tiles. These patterns are visible in soft and contrasting colours.
It’s about being expressive with patterns and prints with interiors being brightening up.
