7 artworks from this year's winter sculpture fair

Jessica Hunkin

Even though Johannesburg was hit with a cold front over the past weekend, that didn't stop lovers of fine food, wine and art from coming out in full force to the Winter Sculpture Fair. Held at the beautiful Nirox Sculpture Park, the 2017 exhibit presented the works of 50 artists under 35 years old, all alumni of 6 of South Africa's major universities. Here's a small snippet of what we saw.
'Inhabit' by Lelani Nicolaisen (canvas, PVA and acrylic)
'Slide' by Emma Willemse (wooden shelf, eucalyptus bark and mutton cloth)
'Manaka' by Kgaogelo Mashilo (cement)
'Ukutshila and the Bulges' by Siziwe Sotewu (clay, skin rope, wire, metal, leather and found objects)
'Boxing Ring' by Thabo Pitso (mixed media)
'Truth and Reconciliation Commission: Apartheid's Wishing Well' by Xhanti Zwelendaba (meranti, enamel, stone and cement)
'Bahir-Gamana (The Journey Outward)' by Manu Manjesh Lal (fibreglass, automotive paint and vinyl sticker)
